Quit Smoking

AIHREA has successfully helped many American Indians quit smoking. However, our program, All Nations Breath of Life, is currently in the development phase and seeking funding. We have provided several resources below to get you or your loved one started on a quit smoking journey.

What is All Nations Breath of Life?

American Indians experience some of the highest smoking rates and some of the lowest quitting rates compared to any other racial/ethnic group in the United States. All Nations Breath Of Life is a smoking cessation program developed for the American Indian communities. The program uses community-based participatory research (CBPR) in alliance with American Indian communities primarily located in Kansas City, Lawrence, and Northern Kansas. ANBL is a 12 week program that provides both classic cessation information and education about cigarette smoking in the Native population, traditional uses for tobacco, weight management during smoking cessation and its effects on friends and family. ANBL is funded by the American Cancer Society, the American Lung Association, and the University of Kansas Medical Center Research Institute, Inc. ANBL is brought to you by the Center for American Indian Community Health and the American Indian Health Research and Education Alliance.

  • All participants will be involved in group and individual sessions.

The program is designed to respect the sacred nature of tobacco to many American Indian people and recognizes that not all American Indian people use tobacco for spiritual or cultural reasons.
